The Stephen J.R. Smith School of Business is situated in Kingston, Ontario, Canada and although a part of the Queen’s University, it is managed separately with its own dean and budget. Smith offers several MBA programs along with the Smith-Peking Double Degree in partnership with Guanghua School of Management at Peking University and the Executive MBA Americas in partnership with the Samuel Curtis Johnson Graduate School of Management at Cornell University.

Smith School of Business offers four distinct programs for those who wish to earn an MBA degree:

Full-Time MBA
The course is designed to help craft excellent leaders and managers and offers several optional features that can be personalized around a candidate’s strengths and aspirations.

Executive MBA – The National Program
This 16-month program is offered across Canada and in some international locations while offering several optional features customized as per the candidate’s strengths and aspirations.

Executive MBA Americas – a Cornell-Queen’s Partnership
The Executive MBA Americas helps a candidate earn a Cornell MBA and a Queen’s MBA while they are working.

Accelerated MBA for Business Graduates
This 12-month program is tailor-made for those with an undergraduate degree in business (or equivalent) and a minimum of two years of relevant work experience.

Smith offers several scholarships to deserving students. For the General Entrance scholarships, an additional application is not required. Let’s discuss the various scholarships offered below:

General Entrance scholarship: They are awarded to those students who have the strongest profiles as per the MBA Scholarship Committee. Every year Smith awards over 50% of students with merit-based scholarships ranging from $10,000 to the entire cost of the program.

Named Scholarship: In addition to our general scholarships, Smith also offers named scholarships, made possible by supporters of the Full-time MBA program. Each year the Admissions Committee awards the following scholarships:

  • Government of Canada – International Student Scholarships
  • Scholarships 4 Students From Developing Countries
  • Study in Canada Scholarships

These are designed to be answered without advanced preparations. The reason behind this is to allow the Admissions Committee to get to know a candidate in real life. Smith requires two letters of recommendation and must be submitted by a senior at the candidate’s organization who can access him or her based on his or her professional skills.

Here are some more tips about the letter of recommendation:

Who can give a recommendation: You will have to provide details of one recommender who can be your reporting manager/ previous manager/ senior colleague/ current client/ previous client/ business partner/ supplier/ auditor etc.

How a letter of recommendation should be written: The recommender should add specific instances/examples of the candidate’s professional work together.

How to send the letter of recommendation: The recommender should send the recommendation from the official email id only. If the recommender does not have an official id – then a proof that you reported / or was supervised by this person should be attached.
